Why are there so many songs about rainbows?

In the whirlwind of anxiety, where fear takes the reins and muffles the kind inner voice assuring us of our worth, the road to our dreams can feel like it's in pieces, like a broken GPS. My own mission to help others find love within themselves revealed a simple yet profound approach – finding rainbows, those little signs that point the way to healing.

Finding these rainbows is not rocket science. It's more about being open to the possibility of hope that rainbows bring us. Fear often speaks up, convincing us there are no rainbows in our path. Through learning trust and belief, there's always a rainbow waiting to be seen. Lately, I've noticed a common thread among clients and friends feeling defeated. It brought me back to a recent memory when an invitation that lead in an intimate dance with a serenade, of the Muppet song, "Why are there so many songs about rainbows?" – a sweet reminder that, while Muppets might not be real, they are inviting us to feel real. When did we stop believing there in the other side of the rainbow? Why don’t I know all of these songs about rainbows? I need to be listening more to the moments than actual rainbow hunting. That invitation that day lead me to believe with love you can make it to the other side.

Seven

During my journey to love, rainbows started popping up around me, confirming their existence. Confirming the pathway that God was paving for me to walk through the dust into a place where my dreams lived. Yet, despite my best efforts, non-believers couldn't see them, even after sending photos of rainbows in all forms of seven times each, they hesitated to embrace change or didn't quite catch God's invitation to step beyond the dust cloud and reach for their dreams. I will continue to pray for them to listen for that invitation, walk through that cloud of dust and see the beauty of the rainbow from the other side.

A poignant moment unfolded in a workshop I attended about relationships lead by a couple, offering hope in the existence of love. Despite smiles they shared, the woman’s obvious battle with insecurities, deflecting compliments and downplaying her own worth was cringe worthy. The gentleman gave her the opportunity many times to show her beauty and how much he loved her. She continued to deflect that love and drove him to shut down on stage.

He was the voice on the other side of the rainbow tainted by her own dust. He was offering an invitation for her to meet him on his side of the rainbow that stood between them. Her struggle to see beyond the dust cloud in her mind led to that session to end with an awkward hand exchange. She asked for his hand in prayer and he gave her a stiff straight hand, where her tiny hand could not grasp. She did not ask for him to open his hand to her, yet held what she could and looked down in defeat.

Her subsequent pride, asking for his hand to end in prayer was unwanted at that point. It led them to a heart-wrenching breakup, leaving her stuck in the same situation. If only she could see her inherent beauty and the love waiting for her on the other side of the rainbow. My heart goes out to her with a prayer to her for courage and the ability to see her beauty and love within.

In building my program, where I navigate the intricate twists and turns of love and relationships, I've observed recurring cycles of individuals getting stuck and missing out on the profound beauty of those elusive rainbows. Since sevens kept popping up, I turned to scripture to find where sevens made the most sense. Right away it led me to forgiveness.

At that point Peter got up the nerve to ask, “Master, how many times do I forgive a brother or sister who hurts me? Seven?” Jesus replied, “Seven! Hardly, Try seventy times seven.
— Matthew 18:21-22

If we can learn to forgive others we are building a trust within ourselves and the beauty within will shine brighter. The seven’s theme in my journey and was confirmed by lyric I had learned only yesterday.

But I want to be here
Truly be here
To watch the ones that I love bloom
And I want to make room
To love them through, and through, and through, and through
The slow and barren seasons, too
I feel hope
Deep in my bones
Tomorrow will be beautiful
And I’m ready God,
I’m ready
Oh, I’m ready
Restless and hungry!
I’m ready for whatever comes next
— -Seven, by Sleep at Last

I thank the person that crossed my path with a sign I needed to see in this recent walk through to the other side of my rainbow and the love and forgiveness I found on the there. I hope that you can find yours too.

Sending you love and healing through the rainbows in your life that only you can see. 🌈
